DESCRIPTION
In 2021, Movement Monk brought me on to streamline their video editing process and develop their visual design system..
PROBLEM
Their flagship product was video content, yet they had no video production professionals on staff. They needed someone to create templates, provide training, and edit enough videos to set a precedent.
.
SOLUTION
As their editor, I created training videos showing my process and how it can be repeated, as well as a library of custom animated assets to be used across all channels.
METHODOLOGY
They used an in-browser video editor and content library solution called WeVideo, so my editing options were limited.
After creating all of my custom animations in After Effects, I exported them in RGB+Alpha color mode to preserve transparency, and then inserted them on top of the footage in the software.
Each video had roughly 15-30 minutes of footage that needed to be distilled to a 2-3 minute video, including intro and outtro bumpers.
.
CRITIQUE
This was a good exercise in calling it done when it’s good enough. With every project I completed, I could’ve spent a couple more hours getting it from good to great, but given time constraints, pipeline bandwidth, and the state of their videos before they found me, “good” is “great” by any pragmatic measuring stick.
If I could do it again, I don’t think I’d change the work I did – but I’d likely rework my attitude toward “the bar,” where I wanted to set it, and where it should actually have been set. #artschoolstudent
