DESCRIPTION
One of our clients was SystemID (now Wasp Barcode Technologies), and I got the idea to create a spot for them that was one simple continuous shot of a pair of hands drawing a QR code from stretch, with a VO telling the story of how they came to be. The executives wanted to see a proof-of-concept, so I shot this spec on a GoPro.
METHODOLOGY
I spent some time in Photoshop designing the end product for the QR code. I then printed it out, and practiced tracing it several times until I was confident I could do it blind. I set up a GoPro on a tripod directly above the sheet, and recorded my hands drawing. VO was provided pro bono by voice talent Rod Bayron, and I believe the music came from FreePlayMusic.com.
CRITIQUE
There are obvious sound mix issues with the VO, and the music is painfully stock. I might actually redo those two parts just for this resume piece.
Another issue is that fisheye was the only option this camera had, and I didn’t yet have the software (or skill) to de-fisheye it so that it would actually scan. Now I have both, but I don’t have the time. I’m not even sure that would help though, since I don’t even think this code would scan anymore anyway.
I’d still love to use this idea somewhere, and do it right.
