DESCRIPTION
I was commissioned to produce a promotional video showcasing the impact this nonprofit makes, to show to potential students, as well as prospective investors.

PROBLEM
Different people get different things from this weekend event, so there’s no singular, all-encompassing answer to the question, “What is Essentials One?”

.

SOLUTION
It might be challenging to wrap your head around what this thing even is. So I made something for you to wrap your heart around.

METHODOLOGY
We put a Canon C100 Mark II on sticks with a two-point LED lighting setup to shoot interviews. Our second camera was an iPhone 12 with Moment’s line of high-end mobile lenses. My amazing creative partner Amber did the location scouting to ensure each environment matched the energy of the person being interviewed, down to the colors, lighting, texture, and general vibe.

We captured as much B-roll as we could without spoiling some of the most impactful parts of the experience, and I edited it all together using Adobe Premiere Pro on a MacBook Pro. In my home office pro while drinking coffee pro and petting my cat, Pro. He’s my pro bro.

For color cohesion, I manually matched all the footage and then used a modified version of the “Boho 6” LUT from a bundle I got on thelutbay.com

MY FAVORITE PART
The thing I loved most about this was actually the pre-work. In order to adequately represent this event, my client and I agreed that I’d need to go through it myself. It was a life-changing weekend, and that was just over Zoom. I connected so deeply with the work and the facilitators, that the weekend we shot the in-person event for the video, I was actually staffing it in addition to filming it.
