Completed: 2013
Skill Set: Video Production
Client: SportClips
.
DESCRIPTION
In 2013, I co-founded a production company called Morron. Productions, and SportClips was one of our first clients. They partnered with the Dallas Stars to commission a SportClips spot to be played exclusively on the Jumbotron at Stars home games.
PROBLEM
The challenge was to create something that would advertise two companies at once, to the same audience. It needed to be just as much a Stars commercial as it was a SportClips commercial.
.
SOLUTION
We created a spot that would hype up what we already knew was our target audience’s favorite hockey team, and then swing in the SportClips plug on the back end when their affinity and connection to the piece was at its peak.
METHODOLOGY
Shot on-site at the Comerica Center where the Dallas Stars practice, we kept the crew light, shot what we needed, and wasted almost no time or disk space.
After we wrapped and broke down the set, we hit a Starbucks nearby and edited the entire thing together in one sitting using Premiere Pro, pulling in Audition for sound mastering.
This was my first time using LUTs and it changed my entire life.
.
CRITIQUE
The visual atmosphere does feel very closed and contained, because it is. The theme and musical underscore are epic and huge. That mismatch has never stopped bothering me.
